Thank you! That makes sense and as I think about where and when I have them you are exactly right.

Can anyone tell me of a style or type electric sander I can get where I won't have to come behind it and hand sand in order to get the squiggly lines out of the wood, or is that just something I have to accept doing? I do a lot of prepping and varnishing of wood on boats and it's very time consuming ...
