This tool came with my Shopsmith.

It doesn't look to me like a lathe chisel.

Is it a mortising chisel?

If so, how are they sharpened?

The handle is a bit loose. How can it be tightened?

Tried the faceplate last night, with mixed results.

I was making a shifter-knob.

I centered the faceplate as best I could, and applied some 1" screws.

The faceplate was then attached to the drive shaft. For support while turning it down to diameter, I used a live center on the ...

Needed lots of penetrating fluid, and lots of manipulation from my foot. Repetition and a bit of pounding from a mallet.

I got it fixed! One more piece of the puzzle!

Perhaps now I can start saving for a new Speed Control assembly!

One of the lift levers on my SS is stuck so that the wheels are extended up constantly. Any advice on loosening them up?

Dumb question: Will tensioning the V Belt help with speed selection?

Oh absolutely, until I trust this machine more I don't trust being in firing range for any sort of start up.
