Re: Shopsmith bandsaw projects

Karl,

Looks good! Did you have a project in mind for the 8" log that you milled or still deciding?

Re: Sydney Opera House organ built using a Shopsmith 10ER

I thought the same thing, totally different times. Interestingly he lived to 91!

Maurice,

That's great that he lived to 91, but the human body organ most affected by lead exposure is the brain so behavioral or neurological symptoms would present before physical ones do. I sincerely hope that I ...

The Rise and Fall of Delta

I stumbled on this video and found it fascinating so I am sharing. I grew up watching Norm Abram which sparked my interest, and my Dad's interest, in woodworking. At the center of Norm's shop was a Delta Unisaw which for decades had a stellar reputation in the woodworking world. I never got a chance ...

Re: Sydney Opera House organ built using a Shopsmith 10ER

In watching the video, I never knew that these organ pipes may be constructed out of lead. Watching him put his mouth on one of these pipes to check tune of it gives me a shudder. I wonder what lead poisoning health effects he and his wife had from doing this work. Sad that it wasn't well known the ...

Re: Power Pro 1 intermittently Shutting down.

David,

My best guess based on the time I spent working on power management (switched mode power supplies), is that "LIREF" is the inductor IREF (reference current) from the power supply (most likely an asymmetric bridge converter since the PowerPro is a switched reluctance type motor design). "Vd ...

Re: Sydney Opera House organ built using a Shopsmith 10ER

Maurice,

Very cool. Thanks for sharing that. I knew before my trip to Australia that the Sydney Opera House would be impressive, but words don't really capture it fully. Until you see it in the distance and then walk up to it, or even walking inside of it...only then do you realize just how ...

Re: Power Pro 1 intermittently Shutting down.

Don,

Did you see my post before on this issue? The document I posted has some possible explanations for this error and solutions. Unfortunately, Shopsmith no longer repairs or replaces the Gen 1 so you may have to upgrade to the Gen 2 unless you can repair the power supply yourself. See link below ...

Re: Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming

Curiously, later in the interview, he does say that the PowerPro Gen 2 supposedly fixed several of the issues that the Gen 1 had. Is he only referring to the overheat circuit added to the Gen 2 or are there other fixes rolled into the Gen 2, e.g. power supply, etc.? I thought the only change on Gen ...

Re: Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming

Maurice,

I have only gotten to watching about a third of the latest interview so far and I agree with you. Most of what the new owner had to say sounds promising and does give me hope for Shopsmith going into the future. :) I still have to watch the rest of the interview sometime. I like that they ...
