One final question, should I be able to compress the motor spring enough by hand to re-install the nut? I am just able to this by setting the motor on end and using the sheave plate to rotate the shaft?

Will this UTR work on a Mark V? Does the unit mount to the existing slide?

Appreciate the replies to my weight question. Have built a heavy stand and added more weight. Much better. Planning on turning large vessels when my skill level gets there. Usually go for the difficult first, although 300lb 10 foot columns are not in the future.

have been turning on my Shopsmith for a couple months now. Am considering a lathe that will handle heavier pieces.
Then realized I don't know how much weight my shopsmith can handle. Can someone enlighten me. I have a Mark V.

Thanks for the information. My Shop Smith is on 12" center, have bid on this rest. How does it attach, guess what I'm asking does it move up and down as like the table saw mount does. thinking the rest does mount in the table saw mount.
