now I feel like a dumb a##

I am new to the Shopsmith. (not woodworking though) I have a ss Mark V/ 510 made in 1989. I have been searching through the manual and on line (I hate asking for help, my wife says I hate asking directions to.) For the life of me I can't figure out what the jackscrews on the edge of the tables are ...

Hoping for help, just bought a Mark V 510 built in 1989 the guy I bought it from turned it on to show me that it worked . when I got it home I turned it on and went through the full speed range and it will not turn past the U setting on the dial any ideas why. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I think I have updated my profile. I have a ss Mark V model 510, I think it was made in 1990. it seams to run good. I payed $250 I will be cleaning and setting it up for a while now.
