Warning on what woodworking can get you in to

Post by reible »

I just got a picture from my brother the bird house builder, not sure he knows that I'm going to share it with you but I am. He builds bird houses and sells them for $3.00. He spends almost nothing on supplies.

Now if you are thinking gee that sounds cheap.... well he has tried to raise the price to $4 or $5 but then people don't buy, go figure right? He does have higher price line for $7 and up but that is a limited market for better house or custom house.

What he does have going for him is that he makes and sells 800 to 1200 bird houses, average years it is around a 1000. It pays for his other hobby of cars for the most part... well anyway the gas to drive them.

The picture is in has garage, one of his storage places, and shows how they are stacked in and when they are all finished they will not fit so additional space in a trailer is used. Some houses are just cut and not put together until space becomes available due to spring sales. The picture show somewhere around 600 houses. He has only 400 to 600 more to go this year.

He doesn't have much to do winters and this keeps him busy. Just be careful how addicted you become to hobbies, old cars or woodworking.

Extra points to those that can find the my upnorth shopsmith.
