Howdy to the forum
It has been awhile since I have posted but I have been "lurking" since this spring when I first purchased an older Model 500. Due to a couple of medical malfunctions, I have not got as far as I would have liked in getting the Shopsmith cleaned up and running. I have been making progress thanks to the wealth of information here. Thanks to all of you that share your knowlege, expertise, and tricks of the trade. There is so much information here that I sometimes spend more time trying to find the thread I had read and need to refer back to than I do applying the information. It does not help that I am easily side tracked and read something very interesting but totally off topic from which I started.
So, my question is; Is there a way to bookmark or somehow save a thread in order to refer back to it at a later time?

Sure you bookmark like you do any site you bookmark. Depending on your choice of program to view the site and how you organize your bookmarks it might be a good idea to have a folder dedicated to shopsmith to collect them in. Perhaps even sub folders for things like repairs, projects to steal, read later etc.

Please excuse my ignorance, but will someone please explain what a 'bookmark' is, and how they are 'used'. I understand the object inserted between the pages of a 'real book, but not 'here'.

For a number of years now, I have been using a free software program -- Note Tab Light -- to keep track of information I find on the internet. You can organize information by creating tabs for each subject and then cutting-and-pasting whatever you're interested in. Where appropriate, I also copy URLs and add a small notation about the specific subject, e.g.,

It's a text only filing system, so you can't save photos.

For searching forum threads, I rarely use a forum search tool. I use Google's site search instead. This also works on Bing, Yahoo, and other search engines
in a Google search [enter what you want to find] site:thesiteyouwanttosearch.com
example: Copy and paste this into Google and the search is limited to the forum only.

Personally, I don't like littering up my favorites/bookmarks with forum posts.
I keep track of links in several ways.
Links I find useful for a specific topic but that I won't regularly visit, I save to a Google Docs spreadsheet that is topic specific. For example I have a woodworkinglinks spreadsheet in my google docs that has relevant links to woodworking sites and how tos, that I will probably refer back to. I have another for my Truck, Another for household items, etc.
For forum posts with useful information I will refer back to I subscribe to the thread. (Click the Subscribe to this Thread link at the bottom of the page.) This way I also know if the thread has been updated which may mean more relevant information.
Bookmarks/Favorites are used for sites that I go to often (daily/Weekly) This site for example is bookmarked.

Thanks pennview, I will try that. My "favorites" tab is pretty full as it is. I did not know I could organize it. I am in the middle of a very sharp:eek: set of learning curves with this P...ecking C...ontraption and trying to get my somewhat abused Shopsmith up and running and now digital photography too. 
All this stuff should keep me out of trouble (even if I lean towards the poorhouse) trying to juggle limited finances and new hobbies.
