I made this from air-dried cherry and walnut I had in the shop, with strips of maple inbetween, ran it thru the planer and glued up the edges. The red oak ends were cut-offs that I dado'd and glued on. The pin is oak. Both pieces are finished in mineral oil only since it is intended to be used. The scraper? To be honest, I bought it off ebay for less than $5. I figured by the time I found a source for a stainless steel blade and how to build one, well.... my time is cheap but it is worth something.
Who knows if it'll hold up or not? My 17-year old thinks she wants to be a pastry chef when she grows up, so I made her something to practice on. It has flaws in it. The bottom isn't quite as nice as the top. I think it will wear well with use and she can always give it a new coating of mineral oil. I like my stuff to look real purty but still get used real often.
