As noted, the maximum number was limited (I thought to 20) so you had to pre-register for the event. Unfortunately for Doug, there were a number of technical issues that precluded 'hearing' some of the presentation.

I guess since we Californians (and other areas of the US) have not been put on the demo schedule, the webinar provides another means to demonstrate new products to us and provide incentives to purchase. Just like you other folks have gotten at the Lowes demos.
Ohhh, you poor guys in California. I feel so sorry that you are not on THIS round of demonstrations. But, as Grasshopper would say - Patience. You'll get your turn just like you did with the Traveling Academy Tour.

Your accounting of the technical issues sounds an awful lot like the start up problems for the Sawdust Sessions.

Wish Shopsmith would have let us know what it was before they started the invite process. I would have been looking for one.

Of course I have yet to get my catalog that everyone else seems to have gotten also.
Ed, I don't think you have to worry. You have made it clear that the PowerPro and the new Mark 7 are way overpriced and that you would not buy them. Shopsmith has heard you and dropped you like a hot potato: no catalog, no webinar and no soup for you!:p

I have a PowerPro and love it, and I was not invited to the Webinar and have not gotten a paper catalog. I guess they dropped the lovers and haters:mad:

I did not get the invite either. Can anyone say if the invite came from SS corporation or from Doug Reid. I would hope that if SS was trying to gain peolpe's interest they would put the company logo on the invite. Even though I have met Doug Reid I would not have recognized his name and associated it with SS. However if the invite contained Susan Reid's name(Doug's wife ) I would have recognized that name. Sue Reid was a SS traveling academy instructor and also the flat out best woodworking instructor I have ever met. I took her academy lathe class and I can tell everyone that that lady can make a lathe TALK.
She also taught a lathe session at one of the Weekend in Dayton (WID) events a few years ago. Those were a lot of fun!!! Wish they still doing them.

Nor did I get an invite, but did receive the catalog.
As a side-bar, I also agree Sue Reid was one of the best instructers I've ever seen. Her message to our class, her last here in Milwaukee was, "safety," and noted no one had gotten hurt in any of her classes. She then proceded to impail herself with a chisel. Opps. Sorry Sue.
With our weather here, now, I'm back out into the garage/shop.
Go Marquette, go Shopsmith!

Ah! Not so fast grasshopper!

An esteemed master of the forum has opened my eyes to a way that makes the Power Pro fall within a price that I can justify both to myself and to the one I must obey. But even then the way is narrow and froth with many things that might make me refocus my desire in other directions.

Therefore Shopsmith would be wise to pick this hot potato back up and place it upon the path that leads it to catalogs, Webinars and liquid norishment. Wisdom would say they should move fast now that my focus is set to what they desire.

If and when I have the opportunity to get Demo pricing again I may just buy one.

Besides I need this much push .. to get the Mark 7 tilt at either end and the new larger casters. So if Shopsmith is looking for customers the one you try to bring to shame is what they seek. Not wise grasshopper

It is not that I love standalones, it is I find the argument or justification for the SS as being better than Standalones slightly ludacris.

I know Standalones can outshine the SS in every aspect except space. Notice I bolded and underlined can. I'm not saying that standalones are always better that a SS but they can and they often are and they can be at a lesser price.

What I'm really saying is we are never going to be taken seriously if we keep insisting our Shopsmith is better than their tools. A compromise machine is still a compromise. I believe Shopsmith is a excellent compromise and perfect for the guy working out of garage that must still use the garage as a garage.

When we start pointing out that our Shopsmith can produce the same quality work as their standalone and do it while requiring so much less space, then we will start being taken seriously.

I'm tired of Shopsmithers making blanket statements like my "Shopsmith cost less does more, has better quality and is better than your standalones." It might be true in some cases but not in all. Yet many make that blanket statement. And those are the ones that make all Shopsmithers look like crack pots.

First of all I disagree with your unqualified statement that standalones can out shine the Shopsmith in every aspect. Yes, there are standalones that will forever outshine the Shopsmith in their specific applications. But to conclude that stand-alones in general can also do this is just not realistic. Some standalones simple do not exhibit the characteristics required to outshine anything.

I don't know of anyone who has made the statement that "My Shopsmith can do everything your standalone can do only better".

I have and still do contend that "My Shopsmith does everything that I need it to do and it meets or exceeds all of my expectations with regard to accuracy (precision)". If I had to use standalones, I simply do not have the required space.
