Router Signs

I can not free hand Router signs...Can anyone recommend a Kit or Jig... I would like for the letters to be approx. 4"..

Hi,

Most of the simple lettering kits stop way before they get to 4". I believe about the closest I've seen is 2-1/2".

You can get commercial machines but then the price will be a real killer.

You can make patterns but each and every letter/symbol/number you need for the project becomes a project to start with.

Then there are pantograph type systems which might give you a solution at a moderate price.

I have not check to see how tall you can go but you can use computer generated letters of your own design...

Here is a link to Matthias Wandel's router pantograph. He offers plans to make your own.

Also, if you poke around his website, you can find techniques for printing out large and full-size templates on a computer printer and he offers a program to allow you to line up the sheets and such.

As reible said, each letter for the template requires a time investment up front, but once done, it's an easy process. The offset to the up-front time investment is that by making the templates larger than the finished product, any errors in the template will be reduced in the final product due to the scale factor. Matthias uses that principle in several of his machines to achieve tight tolerances in his joints.

Couldn't you make your own?
Print the font and size you want trace and cut them out.
file to the line...
I guess it depends whats more important to someone at the time
Their time or money.
My job is time demanding sometimes I have to pay for things that
I would rather do myself.
Good news I get to retire in about two and a half years.
I can fish when the weather is right and make sawdust the dust of the time
Oh and I think I told my wife something about doing dishes and laundry
until she retires but I'm sure she don't remember that...
she forgets everything

lightnin Thats what I thought when I retired 8 years ago I don't know when I had the time to work a full time job..LOL..The ol cancer bug hit 6 years ago. This will be my 3rd. battle starting the last of May...I hate Chemo...But life goes on...Life is Great..

foureyes45 My dad retired at 62 then was diagnosed with cancer soon after
and lived to be 87.
He spent thousands of days tinkering as he called it in his garage after the cancer.
Some days were a fight... every day was precious ...
