Shopsmith's Tall Fence Extension plan

Unless I have missed something, the Tall Fence Extension plan on the Shopsmith owner's site has an incorrect specification for the fence mounting hardware for the 520, as it is calling for only two threaded T-nuts and connecting bolts and washers when it looks like there should be four. Am I right about this or does the extension attach to the fence in some way I cannot see from the drawing? The threaded T nut part number also seems to be wrong (the last two digits are transposed -should be 91 not 19). I'm not sure SS still carries all these parts but I will find out tomorrow.

I pointer or link to the location on the owner's site would be helpful. I remember the "tall fence" presentation but I can't find it.

The tall fence can be used with both the 520 fence and with the Jointer in the same fashion thus two sets of holes. Perhaps It would have been more accurate of me to suggest the duplicate holes are to encourage different applications or uses. Jim

Self Explanatory!

You are correct on both counts.

Only the t-nuts are ss specific - the rest is common hardware.

Only the fence face needs be counterbored and the screws need to be 3/4".

If 'top' mounting holes are counterbored, those screws also need to be 1/4" shorter.

Yeah, I should have provided a link - sorry. JPG has done so below. I am pretty sure this particular plan needs 4 threaded T nuts but I am thinking you could build a simpler version with just two. All that extra support at the top seems a little over the top although I guess it would help keep the jig nice and square as it is stored.

I think you only need two mounting holes, but where they're placed and the diameter of the holes depends on which model Shopsmith you have. You could swap the fence between a model 500 and one of the other models by drilling holes in the vertical part of the fence so it fits the 500, and then drill holes in the horizontal support and use two miter slot t-nuts to attach it to a 505, 510 or 520. If you have a 520, the through holes are 5/16", otherwise they're 1/4".
