speed control stops on mark V 510 1989

Hoping for help, just bought a Mark V 510 built in 1989 the guy I bought it from turned it on to show me that it worked . when I got it home I turned it on and went through the full speed range and it will not turn past the U setting on the dial any ideas why. Thanks for the help.

Have ya cleaned it up yet and lubed everything? Here's how to do a high speed adjustment.

SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.
