Operator Safety
I have worn a gold medic alert bracelet for the past 35 years that was "welded" on my arm by a paranoid mother who was afraid if I was ever unconscious someone would steal the bracelet before help arrived.
I have always been careful to keep it away from moving parts but I still worry. Last night while channel surfing I saw a show where two girl were working on cars and one of them worn some kind of bracelet cover. It looked like leather (the show was on low def so it was hard to see details), it was very tight and covered her dangling jewelry that she wore on her arm. They said it was important to never have hanging jewelry during the usually safety warnings but never said what she was wearing or where to find one. I have tried to Google it but I never get close. Has anyone here ever heard of this and know where to get it?

Not welded to my skin but there is no way to remove it without cutting it off.
I like the idea of using electrical tape, I may try it.

I was looking to just buy something made for the purpose. With leather I was not sure how it would fasten.

My thought would be that anything that protruded further than necessary would be a problem. I could never imagine reaching inside an engine bay with anything on me much less a thick band. Just wrap it with tape if possible, it clings, minimal protrusion and won't get caught on a spinning fan belt. Just an image to think of as I remember a disaster of sorts when in college working at a shop. Something spun then something bled...not me, but I had to try and clean the bay after.

Some of us would not be caught reaching into an engine compartment under any circumstances. I discarded jewelry of all descriptions many years ago.holsgo wrote:My thought would be that anything that protruded further than necessary would be a problem. I was working with a guy who wore a ring (as did I at the time). He jumped down off a stack bed truck and his ring got caught on top of one of the stacks. It ripped his finger right off.
I also worked with a guy who stuck his hand inside a radio transmitter that was supposedly turned off. The RF energy, attracted by his ring, shot right out his elbow. Really nasty sight.
I don't wear jewelry.
