New to Forum

Hi all,

I just joined the forum today.

I have been a novice woodworker for years but not much the last few years. I have a Mark V for the 80's era.

I will retire the end of the year and am looking forward to pursuing my two passions, golf and woodworking and maybe a little fishing too. I am sure I will be in this beginner forum a lot and will have a lot of questions.

I currently live in The Woodlands, Tx (30 miles of Houston) but will be moving to Tyler, Texas when I retire.

We must be neighbors, I live in The Woodlands as well. My wife is retiring tomorow after 35 years with the Woodlands Development Corp. I worked for George Mitchell for 20 years myself. George is the founder of The Woodlands and I was one of the first employees to work in the new town of The Woodlands, which just passed the 100,000 population mark. Welcome to the world of woodworking, which I have just discovered myself in the past year.

Yep, better get it out of your system now while you can afford it. A PowerPro upgrade, an upgrade to a 520, Overhead Pin router, Penn State Pen turning supplies and equipment, Double Tilt upgrade, etc. etc.

Very familiar with George Mitchell. We have lived in the Woodlands for 30 years. We have lived in three of the villages, most recently Alden Bridge. Closed on the house last month and now in an apartment until the end of the year.

Regarding the extra equipment now, I am trying to convince my wife I need a golf cart when we move to Tyler. We are remodeling a house on the golf course so I think it is perfectly logical to buy a golf cart.

Does you wife work with Hennie VanRensberg or Maria Whitehead. Both are good friends and work for the The Woodlands Corp.

Yes, Judy attended many committee meetings with Hennie over the years. Now she only talks to him on the phone. Small world.

Hennie used to be my next door neighbor. Maybe you can keep me updated on The Woodlands when I move.

Welcome to the beginners corner. I am fairly new here too. I got my 80's SS this year. If I offer advise, remember that I haven't done much:D and not all of my experiences have been good.

I was in the Woodlands earlier uin the year for the funeral of good friend, Tom Chesser, who retired there a few years ago.

I trust you enjoyed The Woodlands while you were here. It is a beautiful place. I hate to leave but want to retire closer to family.

Hey, Dwayne. Welcome to the Forums and the wonderful (expensive) world of woodworking. Having lived in the Woodlands for so long I would assume that you are used to the humidity that you will encounter in east Texas. Always glad to see a fellow Texan join the forum and hope you enjoy your new hobby.

The fellas are right, get it now and enjoy it down the line. Just got my Power Pro headstock and she is SWEET.
As for retirement? Scary stuff, at first, but in a while you will truly not have enough time in the day, and then wonder where the day went!
