Jigsaw

Post by 65sterling »

I am trying to buy a jigsaw( no longer available from Shopsmith) on line and was wondering if there is a fence for straight cutting? Also does anyone know of a good one for sale? Thank you all.

I believe you would have to come up with something on your own.

Typically a jigsaw/Scroll saw (which replaced the jigsaw in the SS line up) is for cutting intricate curves. There's a reson the jigsaw is no longer in production. I have one and it is a fine tool, but I can see where the combination of cost to manufacture and design changes eliminated the "Jigsaw".

If you want the ability to make straight cuts and occasional curved cuts, a bandsaw may be a better purchase item. I finally got one and use it way more than the jigsaw or my stand alone scroll saw.

You may may also want to look into a scroll saw purchase either SS or standalone.

As for one for sale, this depends largely on your location, craigslist is your friend.

The jigsaw is a great purchase. It's built like a tank. Pay attention to eBay and you'll find one well priced. Always fill it with oil, you don't really need a fence as there are no table slots but it will do all you ask of it.
