There are two(3?) versions. CI and aluminum. The tapped hole on the top of the headstock, a screw, and an open slot on the guard. The earlier ones were taller and interfered with sawing with the table 'low' so a squatty one was introduced.

My membership request to this group has been "awaiting administrator approval" for several days now...is this normal?

I believe Skip Campbell (MKC Tools) is the only administrator on that site at this time. I just checked and his most recent post there was on Dec. 4, so he may be away. Last summer, when he was away travelling for a month or two, only one of the assistant admins he had lined up did anything and that was a bit hit and miss.

If so, what's the difference between them besides the one I'm guessing is a 10E fence is squared off on the ends and the one I think is a 10ER is rounded...also, the 10ER one has a clamp for the front of the table and the 10E one looks like it only clamps on the rear of the table (?)

The fence that came with mine is like the 10ER one I have above, although the front table clamp is broken so it's useless unless I can find a replacement part (the part that hooks back under the table is broken off).

The 10E does not have a rear clamp.

The 10E does not have the mortise hold down hole.

The 10E has two large screw heads on top.

The 10E has two holes on top that allows using the 10E extension table with two 'studs'/wing nuts(not adjustable).

The 10E looks like a plain chunk of metal.

So is that lower picture I have posted above the 10E fence? Does it actually clamp effectively with only a clamp at the front end? Seems like there would be a fair bit of movement at the outfeed end. I'm a sucker for things being all original, so am tempted to buy the correct fence for my 10E, but then again, perhaps it was upgraded by SS in short order for a reason.

Yes

FWIW both have clamps on the 'front'.

The 10ER also has a clamp on the 'rear'.

The 10er clamp is relatively simple - a knurled headed screw and an L(sorta) shaped clamp.
