I for one use the quill advance adjustment (as in the drill press) to set the saw blade to the center of the sled groove (don't forget to tighten it down!). I suppose I could create a gauge so that it was repeatable within a few thousands of an inch but I don't find that necessary. I do the same thing to make sure the blade is centered for my zero clearance inserts. This is one of the great features of a Shopsmith...the ability to adjust the blade in relation to the table saw slot without moving the carriage.

Which Gouge to use for bowls.
