My wife gets a tiny bit annoyed with me when we go to places like the state fair or the home show etc. where vendors are giving away pencils and pens with their ads on them. I keep telling her to pick one up and she says "you have hundreds of them already"... I say that the elves keep losing them and that I want them to be put in pre-drilled holes all over the shop. That if I want a pencil to make a mark I don't want to take a step to get one.

We never grab a handful from any one vendor, just one here and one there as we go along. I also have 3 or 4 pencil sharpeners (the old crank school kind) in the shop.

Some of my pencils are kind of old and the erasers are useless but since I never make mistakes it doesn't matter.

I found that one wrap of tape around the pencil held it tight enough to mark yet loose enough to pull out and sharpen. I think next time I will use a thicker board to better align the pencil vertically. And a round pencil would be great, but had none in the shop.

I was thinking maybe the point of a screw could scribe the line. Might need adjustment initially and the point may need to be filed sharp, but you would not need to find one of pencils Farmer says he keeps a supply of, round or otherwise:rolleyes:

Lotta good ideas here.
My all-time Fav for center finder still has to be the BCTW Centerscribe- but it has one major flaw: it's So fast n easy, accurate and downright perty, onct you made your mark you tend to look for something else you can do with it so you don't have to put it back in the box...
