Hey. I'm very happy to have found this group, I've been going it alone for so long! My ER10 came into my life well over 25 years ago. It was left behind in a house I bought. I recognize it's shortcomings, but there is no way I would have acquired all the separate tools that the ER comes with. Here's some photos, no shiny paint, just lots of saw dust:

Nice - I wish I'd found one at my house when I bought it :-) Nice bottle openers - what types of wood are the handles?

Variable speed drive, I didn't even know what it was till last week, I still don't know how to use it. I have been using whatever exotic woods I can get my hands on for my openers. These are: "tiger" maple, cork from a flooring sample, ebony, cocobollo, lignum vitae, red something and stabilized burl. I have a bunch more in progress I'll put them up when they're done. My favorites right now are bokote and tonkin cane.

JUst turn the crank and it should speed up/slow down. If it isn't doing this, take it all apart and clean and lube it as it's probably corroded together and hence doesn't work.

Be nice to see some pictures as to how you work the wood into those shapes and secure the openers to the wood. Nice work.

Would you be so nice as to put your nomenclature (list) of wood that you have used in the same order as the picture, so that way we can learn to identify the sort of wood used with the opener in question ... I would really appreciate it.

With a mechanical variable speed changer (Reeves type) on most things it is to be changed only while running. Of course if you are changing speed by changing belts on pulleys I don't recommend doing so while it is running.

Since we're discussing the speed changer on a 10ER, I don't think it would matter if you turned the crank when it was off...obviously it wouldn't change the machine if it wasn't running but I don't think doing this would be problematic like it is with a Mark V.
