I just purchased this. It has a guard but is not spring loaded. Do you know where I can find a spring or new guard?

You might try this

Part 55 on this list. A call to customer service should be bale to tell you if this is the same part or not.

Another Option is to upgrade the guard completely.

Make sure your guard has the spring tension wound. The knob on the guard should have spring tension if you turn the knob counter clockwise.
If no tension, the spring inside the mechanism may have broke or come loose.

Methinks I would try rotating the knob clockwise(when viewed from the 'top')!;)
