The v505-520 went to the longer rubber spacer. A 2" pvc pipe with 60 degrees cut out will slip on/off easily.(cut to proper length)
All work correctly.
Simple and elegant. I like the idea. I'll have to try that, I think I've got some in the scrap pile. Thanks again guys.
I think I'm having as much fun messing with the machine as I am using it. It's really amazing how adaptable the Shopsmith's are. The only bad thing is, I can see it ending up like an old Triumph I had, I spent more time tinkering on that car than driving it

Be aware that the rubber ring also acts as something of a shock absorber for when you tilt the Mark V and the headstock or carriage slide into one another. If you use something other than the rubber bumper the impact will be greater.
The rubber bumper is only a couple $$. It is the sort of item to keep on the want list as a filler to future orders.
I highly recommend the rubber rather than something (anything) that is rigid.

And IMHO two are better than one!]Everyone[/B] needs to forget locking the headstock once so as to firmly ingrain the need to do so every time in the future!
