OK, so it is just one book so far. But it is a start. A grown grandson has started a local Ebay consignment business and was asking about me selling some stuff.

I have been selling some 1950s comic books and other odd stuff. I like Ebay but hate all of the detail handling and shipping etc.
I haven't gotten into the storage building with the actual parts yet but need to.

I'll give you a hint. Whatever my wife needs fixed next will require one of two tools: A set of DADO blades or a decent tap and die set. It isn't going to matter what is broken, I am going to need one of those two to fix it. As long as the "parts" are cheaper than the plumbers quote, and it works when done, I get no complaints. I do the same for my parents or anyone else who asks me to fix something for them as long as they aren't destitute.
Remember a six pack of beer also. Good stuff. At least $1.50 a bottle. Depending on the project you may want to keep them in the fridge until completed though.

I will jump in, maybe it's because me and my lovergirl got together later in life and learned some hard lessons in the past we had this talk....she is not my mother/sister/helpless thing I got to take care of. We talked about what we expect from each other, what we bring to the table. She's seen me at my worst and I help her throught the things she needs me for. I fix stuff in the house, she usually cooks, we both work. We each have our place, if I ask whats wrong I get an answer. If she says I acting goofy (er than usual) I listen.

OH and a little xposting...read the book The Koehler method of dog training, it can be used on(and SHOULD BE ON SOME) people.

I showed her the nail in the head vid, she laughed and asked me "what whould you do if that was me?" I told her she wouldn't have a choice I would yank it out.

75 years plus a PHD and you haven't figured it out yet? I've survived longer than you so listen to your elders. The age counts and the education doesn't because my education is not measured in degrees - only from what I have learned (often outside the confines of the University).

Don't know about the DADO but suspect you misspelled DODO (extinct bird). About the Tap and Die set. Best not used together. One Tap should be enough to get you moving the Die comes in only if you don't respond to the Tap. If you don't get my meaning ask your wife]Tap [/B]and/or Die.

Nor really a rant but some good insight and advise. Haven't read the dog book but will acquire it because I have learned more about how to deal with people, read body language, and decipher BS from fact from my dog than I ever learned from "book larnin'".

For the past 5 years I have been teaching a two-day course on "How People communicate' which deals with the different ways people present their views, don't listen, and often don't get what they expect, much less want which has had good results. One of the most valuable aspects of this is introducing information on how dogs communicate, how adept they are at reading body language and how they always (not almost - but always) identify phonies.

A book I would recommend is "The Social Lives of Dogs." Dog trainers (those made famous on TV) hate it along with dog breeders, particularly the ones who insist on purebreds, and who abhore half-breeds or mongrels.

The first few chapters really show how dogs effectively communicate among themselves, other animals and "owners" and provide marvelous insight into what we can learn from them in dealing with others. They do this without words and we have the advantage or disadvantage of words to communicate what is important to us.

I used to work dog rescue, and regret not following up working with dogs as a profession, but the problem with dealing with dogs isn't an untrainable dog...It's an unwilling owner.

I just ordered the recommended book. I do not expect to be surprised, as I frequently wondered during college Psych classes if the lecturer had ever had a close relationship with a dog. They have taught me much. (The dogs, that is. But my Psych professors ran a close third, just behind my parents ) I've had both Mutts and pure-breds, and yes, the mutts do seem to be considerably smarter than their AKC registered cousins (who tend to be prettier). I hope the book is an entertaining read.

Since this thread has gone to the dogs, I will 'share' a 'tail'.

When a 'master' followed his faithful companion of unknown heritage in death he was overjoyed to be reunited with him.

As they walked down a road leading to a grand pearly white gated edifice they eagerly anticipated the joy they would share on their trip to infinity.

When they arrived at a gate, the gate keeper informed the 'master' that he was 'welcome', but that 'mutt' was not!

Well I guess we will have to keep walking said the 'master'. Where I go he goes. I lost him once but will not willing lose him again.

So they walked further down the road until they came to a gate along the side of the road. It was locked, but when he tried to open it a troll appeared and inquired what he wanted.

The 'master' told the troll of his experience at the pearly towers and explained why he and his dog were still walking to lord knows where.

The troll nodded his head in understanding and inquired if they would like to join him on the other side of the fence.

The 'master' thought briefly and asked: 'If heaven was behind the pearly gates, where did this gate lead to?'

The troll replied: Heaven? That place you described is the 'other' place!

So the 'master' agreed to come with the troll.

As the new arrivals entered through the gate they were reunited with all the 'good' people with which they were acquainted on earth and began making friends with many more.
