I'm going to purchase one of these but now that I have read this I am confused. I thought you only needed one of them. So what is 1 or 2 and why? From the first post that started this thread it sounded like he got 2. Maybe I mis-read.

Only need one unless you have two SS MK V's. The one on the SS that is always a saw stays there. The other goes on #2 when desired.mt

Looks like my idea doesn't work on PCs - sorry guys.

The formula will work on a copier with a % function.

Basically:- New size Divided by Original size times 100 - gives you percentage for enlargement or reduction.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll find a big rock to crawl under.

For those frustrated by trying to get the paper print out to just the right size, you can always do what I did.

I got out a center punch and a strip of paper. wrapped the paper around the collar and pinched it (made a fold) where the strip closed up. Cut the strip with scissors so it was exactly the circumference of the collar. Then folded the strip in half and marked that fold - folded that halved double piece in half again and marked those folds. Then taped the strip on the collar with the open ends over the '0' that is already marked on the collar.

Now, with the paper firmly on the collar, used a center punch and struck an indent at each quarter. I used 3 vertical punches through the '0' - 2 vertical punches at the 180 degree mark - and one punch at each of the 90s.

Since the collar raises or lowers 1/16" at each full rotation, I now have each 1/64th of an inch. Turning half way between any of the marks gives accuracy to the nearest 1/128th of an inch. (this is .013") With minor rotations one can even fudge in a little closer than that.

I think you could probably get by using only one; however, in the owner's manual (Parts List and Exploded Views) you will find two installed on the tailstock. In this location the stop collar is referred to as a Tube Collar, 501439.

Wanting to add this to my stop collar I wanted to get it to exactly 7.006 inches from edge to edge so I took it into Photoshop and adjusted. I had to go to 800n pixels/inch in order to resize to exactly 7.006. I was getting 7.007 or 7.005 at lower resolutions, but 800/inch seemed to be the trick. So I have the PSD of the full page (67MB), plus a JPG version. Also just the scale in both JPG (attached here) and TIF. I Zipped the full page JPG version and it's under the limit, but it isn't letting me upload it. Anywhere here is the 7.006 version of the scale only as an attachment.
