made it yesterday
I went to the Woodworking Show at our OC Fairgrounds yesterday. Still charging for parking, and there is none anywhere near, $7. Plus $10 to get in (advanced buy, $12 at the door).
It was really good to see the show return to OC since we have missed it. Although it was in only one building - used to cover at least two - most of the biggies came with nice displays. Fortunately, I left my checkbook and credit card at home or I would be in trouble today at home. I thought Lee Valley had an especially nice complete display.
On a Friday at noon the good-sized crowd consisted mostly of old retired guys like me. And the long white beards to be seen!
And, yes, Andrew was there with ShopSmith. I only spent a few minutes there vouching for his pitch on the PP. He was spending the majority of time on the PP which I guess is to be expected since they need to recoup investment.
I did ask if with the power of the PP they were going to come out with a 6 inch jointer, but no hope. Of course, he works not for SS but a distributor giving shows but that correlates with what SS told me some time ago. Pity. I am thinking of a design to use the planer as my jointer for wide faces. The Sara-style quilt rack I made for a friend was devilish to put together with tight joints since I had to rip the boards down to a little less than 4 inches for the jointer. Wicked angles!

I know that Total Shop and a few of the other clone makers offered 6" joiners that fits perfect on the Mark V. I have gotten a few of them to rebuild and then sold them. I notice one of these 6" joiners on Craig's List about once a year here in Florida. and they did offer discounts on a complete Mk 7 and PP so I expect they would offer a discount on the 520. Just did not come up while I was there.
If you are on the email list from SS for 'specials' they offer discounts on lots of parts. 520 will eventually come up I am sure.

Yes I did just sign up, and think that larger table and fence would be a good investment. I did rip a full sheet of ply yesterday ( just got my SS the prior weekend) and was doable, but might be a bit more comfortable with a larger table and out feedforrestb wrote:Chris

out feed table would be good
but the biggest problem I found in cutting a 4x8 sheet of plywood is keeping in aligned against the fence. If you don't have some kind of track that you can use with a circular saw, I suggest making a 'longer fence' that make it easier to keep tight to the SS fence. I made this one a few years ago and it makes me comfortable. Be sure to use well-seasoned wood as the 'fence' so it doesn't warp over time.
