shopsmith saw fence

Hi All.
im new to the forum, i'm based in the UK and have just bought a 510. i have loads of questions that hopefully you guys can help with, the first one is. i know the shopsmith isn't ideally suited (or so im told) for ripping 8 x 4 sheets. i have looked at all the different table accesories available, to aid in this size of stock, can you tell me the ideal set up (maybe a picture or two) for this. thanks in advance

Wecome to Shopsmith. There are lots of ways to do things and the Doug Reid youtube video will show you some interesting table configurations that might help. Cutting 4' x 8' sheets of material is never going to be good on most any table saw. It is much easier to purchase some type of guide system and use a portable saw to reduce the size of the material down to a more manageable size. There are lots of great vidoes by Nick Engler, Doug and others out there that will lead you down the road of inovative soulutions for how to make you Shopsmith work. Enjoy.

I've had my Shopsmith since '78, and had occasion to us my father-in-laws shop with a Delta table saw with about a 3' square top. Even with a helper, sheet goods are heavy and hard to handle.
I always use a circular saw to rough cut pieces I can safely handle.

OK, my older brother, has this (I think it is a Grizzly) table saw, tilting arbor kind, and the surface is just about the size of 2 Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, side-by-side,(well, maybe just a tiny bit larger) and he STILL needs help cutting up 4X8 sheet stock.

Seriously, if you want to cut a 2 inch strip off the end of a 4X8 piece of plywood, you need an assistant, and infeed + outfeed rollers.

Or, a portable (skilsaw type) circular saw, a guide, AND sawhorses. (And, the non-mentioned friend.)
