The urethane spider is a must better product. I went with the cheapest at the time and had no problems with them. I never found any clearance problems with the shorter LoveJoy couplers. If fact, when I was playing with Shopsmith tube lengths shorter than the MINI (25 5/8"), these couplers allowed me to have some really short length Shopsmith power stations for the SPTs. Amazing how compact you can make the Shopsmith that can still function as a Power Station.

Some would say you have made the sacrificial lamb invincible. Not sure I agree with that! However Beeg has a point! I do not think age alone is responsible for failure. These old 'Zytel' couplers are very tough! Much better than the current version that reminds me of stuff other than 'nylon'.

NO, however properly aligned shafts are still needed for insuring a coupler's longer life. Shopsmith has used different materials for their couplers over the years. I only found that the clearer looking plastic couplers seems to deteriorate with age and could break easier if the shafts were not aligned properly. The solid white couplers seems to hold up really well for me over time.

My mileage varies from yours, but my experience is far less. I
still use my original from 1963. I have 'broken' two of the later white ones.

Do not let them 'rub' against anything while rotating.

What caliber is the 1885 Low wall. Nice case harding on the Stevens.

The 1885 is a .22 short.

The case on the 414 is original. The blue is original. This rifle is like it just came out of a Stevens box. The only thing not original in the photos is the wood. I made this set of furniture. I have the original furniture in storage.
