Hi all. I was just surfing around again via Pinterest (I know - I thought it was just for girls too). I found this nifty site with some very innovative yet simple furniture pieces. I hope y'all enjoy it and are as amazed as I was... The site is called Design Soil (designsoil.jp)

innovative, nifty but not very permanent nor all that functional. Designers might like them because they are new age, different but except for the Eames Chair which was also very functional as well as meeting the above criterion, these don't come close.

It’s great to see the creative work of young students who are encouraged to push the “design envelope”… it is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing the website.

It seems like anything the Japanese do they make it into an art - bonzai, flower arrangement (I forget their word for it), even drifting in auto racing. I think anyone except a woodworker might think of what we do as just a trade or craft in American culture. But it involves creativity and to me that makes it an art. When I say the Japanese make it into an art - I mean they don't perceive it the same way we might. I don't know how to explain it fully it's just an idea I have and I'm probably putting way to much thought into the subject.

It gave me some ideas to. I like how they think outside the box (or at least they think outside my box

). I don't think I would have come up with any of those on my own without some instruction or seeing it done first. I think my favorite piece is the coffee table with the 3 sided pedestal made from plywood and cords to make it flex.
