New Acquisition and some questions

Proud owner of a very clean, little used 520. I was able to acquire it for $1000. I think it's a good deal, only a very small amount of rust on the tubes. Best thing is, I didn't have to travel far like I have for some of my other SS stuff. It was located in my hometown. It didn't come with any extra's other than about 4 saw blades, extra saw arbor, and a sanding disk. I've got all that other stuff anyway. I didn't bother with a picture, because as a craiglist seller when asked to post a pic said "it looks like a shopsmith". Well, mine does too.

Anyway, now that I have 2 SS's, I see a shorty in my future. My question is, are the 500 tables of any use to keep?

Depends on what you want your shorty to do.

If you leave it set up as a 12" sander with occasional use as a horizontal boring machine then yes.

Only you can answer this.

IIWM I would set it up as a shorty and keep the table for the flexibility if nothing else.

Yea, you're probably right. I suppose even in some instances, the 500 extension table can be used as backup on the 520 on the other end.

I usually want the stuff back as soon as I see the trash truck going down the street away from my house:D

I had a similar problem...
Then I got divorced and that was the last time I had to worry about my stuff being thrown in the garbage!
