IF I have to adjust the main table height while having the 5 foot tubes in place I do it by sliding the tubes out of any fixed extension tables. If I have the down tubes in place I leave them and any floating tables in place on the tubes.
The main table height is adjusted then using the same procedure I use when ever I set the height of the fix extension tables, that being aligning them with the main table and tightening. I then put the long tubes back in place and I'm ready to go.
Attempting to raise or lower the main table while the fix extensions in place will most likely end up with bent 5 foot tubes.
I have bent one of my 5 foot tubes (shopsmith version) when I had a knee issue and used the tube as a grab bar... good for the knee issue but not for the tube. It did not take a lot of pressure to bend it.

I have two 520s so I have extra tables by definition. They do come in handy.
Let me start with my experience. I upgraded my 500 to a 520, near that time I picked up a basket case 510. So I was learning the ropes so to speak on both machines. One of the thing I found out was that if I aligned a fix table to the right side and I wanted to use it on the left side I lost alignment. When I say alignment I'm speaking of having a rip fence attached to a fix table it has to be "right on". If I did the alignment to the left side same thing happened when attempting to use on the right side. I had the same experience on the 510.
The only solution I could find was to assign one table to the right side and purchase another fixed table for the left side. I did this for the 520 and I upgraded the 510 to a 520 and did the same thing.
The thing is that the fixed tables are basically a floating table with legs. So if you want/need a floating table and you want it located somewhere the legs don't get in the way, well you have another floating table. If you add another floating table you can always change it to a fixed table just by adding the legs.... OK it is costly to do so but I've managed to do it.
I've managed to use up all of my tables in one setup, that is 4 fixed and 2 floating and ended up with a very large "saw top". In addition I have a router table that can double as a large floating table, and a second main table without the under parts that can be added when needed to one of my setups....
Can you say fun erector set!

Wow, I was thinkin the same thing. So, its basically limited only by your imagination and/or wallet.
One last question (for now). I've seen outfeed tables setup using floating tables hooked into the tube system and using the telescopic legs for support. What is required to achieve that setup ( to hook into the tube system)
Is that something that has to be made or is it an accessory from SS?

As you will no doubt guess I have these too. I have two sets, and before you even ask they can be use as infeed or outfeed or both.
