I think this is an excellent explanation of how to layout dovetail spacing.

Video shows you, start to finish, how to lay out dovetails using two sets of dividers -- no ruler necessary. By Megan Fitzpatrick/Popular Woodworking Magazine.

A very handy and simply technique. Great for a beginner like me.

but if you do the "handmade" look your eyeball and a pencil suffice.
