Question of usage ...

On the picture you can see two pieces
they are two legs for a bench to sit on ...
I just finished taking off all the paint and now I would like to rust proof them.
Because of their size, I cannot immerse them in EvapoRust like I usually do ...
Can evaporust be applied with a brush and protect as much or does it have to be immersed

I would get a big storage container and introduce thee to electrolysis.

Much cheaper anyway.

Orrrr you could try the circulating 'water' fall method.

I have not had much success with the cover and soak method with or without a rag. As MickyD said once upon a time, "It is called evaporust because it evaporates!".

I have had success with a product called Extend rust neutralizer from Loctite Corp. It is a spray on and turns dead black when it cures properly. Usually ten minutes or so. It can be primed and sprayed after about 24 hours. It works best if some rust remains but you do have to wire brush the scaley rust off.

PS I forgot to mention that this stuff is EXTREMELY flammable so lots of ventilation is required.

PS I forgot to mention that this stuff is EXTREMELY flammable so lots of ventilation is required.

I used the same product on a rusted metal gate on my side yard over a year ago and it is still black with no rust. (I still need to paint that gate:eek: )

I live on a lake.. I have fought with piers and boat lifts for years.
The stuff that came with the house was mostly non galvanized steal
I use a product called Rust converter by CRC I wire brush the surface to
remove what rust I can first then paint on the RC with a brush. It's milky but dries black.
Works pretty well the oldest stuff I put it on about 3 years ago still hasn't sprouted any new rust.

Thank you all for your answers.
Finally, after consulting my neighbour for whom I am doing this, they decided to accept my suggestion and coat with Penetrol. They like the idea it would give a brilliant finish and protect from rust. It will be in their porch and the floor there is heated, so I think it will do best.
But I keep your suggestions for future reference ...

Another good product is POR-15. Has to be top coated.
