I got fussed at over adding posts when an edit would do as well. If a two way session is active, I feel it is better to add a post rather than edit if the 'opposition' is still on line.

Where to start?

First I hope you removed the half dog set screw in the top of the headstock that prevents the quill from coming out or rotating.

That green 'bracketry' belongs to something else.(roto tiller?)

That is indeed a flexible shaft.

The only 'different' belt would be if it is a Gilmer drive.(Gilmer belt rather than current poly-v belt.

It is doubtful that it would have a two bearing quill unless it has been upgraded from a gilmer to a poly-v.

Count the splines on the quill shaft. 6/14 = Gilmer/Poly-v.

I cannot help but wonder what the BFH was hitting?

P.S. Electrolysis is the 'solution' for the cast iron bandsaw table.

Yes, I removed the set screw. I spent quite a bit of time searching for advice on how to remove sticky quills before I got started. But even after 3 days of spraying it wouldn't move so I was hitting the splines on the quill knowing I would need to replace it.
I will check the spline count tomorrow but I know its more than 6.

Welcome here!!! You are in great hands here and with Stickeys and asking for help, and when these 2 calm down, great on theses machines, we can over come all problems!!!!!! I did not look up th SS# but by the color you have a Greenie,

It is in the maintenance forum stickeys, a long with other info!!
I bought a Goldie, same problem, the bushing in the arm that moves if forward was caroded, had to use a heat wrench on it but the quill was fine. Too much overlaod at this moment to go forward.
But this is where you want to be!!!

TY I used the stickies to look up the serial number which was Sept of 57.
I have also been looking at a lot of the shop smith videos how to repair, rebuild, clean and maintain these things. Its going to be a project for a while just getting one thing working at a time.

Sounds like your off to good start. This is a great forum (even if we got off to rough start:D ). You will find a wealth of helpful information. Welcome to the forum.

I am one of the less knowledgeable members, so others will correct me if I am wrong. Looks like you have an aluminum band saw table in first pic. In 3rd pic.: a cast-iron band saw table, a belt sander table, and an extension table. There is more in the firs pic, but I wanted to point out that to me looks like you have both the aluminum and cast-iron band saw tables.
