Hello all,
So over the weekend I took the Shopsmith plunge. I found a 10ER for sale here in Fairbanks, Alaska and it seems to have all of the attachments. Now to figure out how to make it all work. In the coming weeks I am sure that I will have plenty of questions. I have read through the maintenance section but have not seen many consolidated posts. Thanks ahead of time.

Congrats on find. I know absolutely nothing about that vintage of machine except what I saw from one when I was buying his Goldie.

SS Mark V (1983 from Grandfather) upgraded to a 510, pieces to make a 500 mini, SS bandsaw, belt sander, broken scroll saw, and strip sander, Jet VS Mini Lathe, and tons of Lee Valley and vintage Stanley planes. Woodcraft slow speed grinder and a German made Tormek wannabe. Ridgid TS 3650 Table Saw, General 80-075LM Jointer.

A picture is worth....
Welcome and yes there are a few of us who own 10's. IMHO it is the best Shopsmith made. Sixty years old and still can out perform most anything on the market today. Ok for you purists out there it is not the best tablesaw. There I said it, but it will run circles around most drill press and lathes. Add a DC motor and it's the cats meow. So ask away we can help or at least point you in the right direction. Not to take away from this group but the 10ER group on yahoo might be of interest to you. Also check out Skip at MKCTOOLS. He is the guru on everything 10ER. Now start looking for your second machine

Josh, as Jerry said, it is the best of all the Shopsmiths. (Well, except for the table saw function, but none of the Shopsmiths rank highly in THAT regard.)
How detailed was your "all the attachments" statement? Just the 5 regular setup pieces, or did you get some (or all) of the extras? There are some attachments I've never seen, except in pictures. (Lower saw guard, A and B SPT adapters, and a couple more.)
Word of warning, watch out for people that just use initials. (Like JPG!)

Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.
Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Josh, I am a beginner at this woodworking game, but I know machines. The 10ER is by far the best built SS out there. The Mark V I have is great, does what it is supposed to do, but it is just not the same. My Mark 7 with the PowerPro is truly an amazing machine, but again, I expect my rebuilt 10ER to be around in another 60 plus years and I don't really know if I can say that about the Mark 7.
Anyway, have fun with it. Be sure to look up the rebuild threads to give you ideas (like they did me) as to how to "save" these wonderful machines.

The 10er's are great machines and very well engineered.
