I have Mark 7 I had to purchase an morse taper extender in the tail stock i use a 1/4 inch router chuck in headstock with a replacement mandrel. later i purchased a special mandrel from Penn State. apprx 40.00.

Welcome to the farm. Penn Sate industries also sells a forstner bit extender that you may want to consider. The part number is "FEX". I just used one to bore some holes to make some cryptex boxes for my grandsons. The 4" one is quite stiff enough. I bored the cylinders and was able to leave a 1/8" wall over the 5" length I was drilling.

Brown, congrats on the Mark 7. Go to the Shopsmith website http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/Sawdust_Sessions.htm and there are tutorial videos and the like available. The "Sawdust Sessions" are legendary!

I have had the same problem due to the addition of a lift assist to my 520 and this was my solution.
