slightly short to provide a space for the excess glue to go.
If using store sought dowels make sure to check the diameter before drilling!!

Hi,
They do sell router jigs to make the rounded tenons or even round tenons. There are plans to build such jigs as well. I have never gotten to the point that I felt it necessary to buy or build one.
The use of a chisel and 4-in-hand rasp is good enough for me. I use a template to establish a line to work to then the chisel to get close followed by the rasp. The rasp has smooth sides so you can work up to the edge without damaging the cheek.
I would sugjust testing out this method and see if you like it before heading off to more complex methods.
