That is hilarious. Today has been a series of "what the...?" but this turned it completely around and made my day!

I like to listen to the wrens. So why won't they listen to me?
If I've told them once, I've told them a thousand times -- "Measure Twice, Cut Once!"

This male wren is working overtime, he is working on 4 houses all at the same time! He brings some twigs to one of the houses then sings for a while, then off to another house adding a bit of spider web and the singing etc etc. He also arranges things so they are always a few twigs on the ground around the nest that didn't work out quite right.

The is the nest box that fell in the wind earlier this year. I think the wind got to spinning it around and unscrewed the eye screw. I had to repair it and repaint so I added a second eye screw so it will not spin out again.

This is his favorite spot right now, singing and carrying on much to my delight as this is close to where I was working today. Took a break and got the camera and took this picture.

He sure has a lot more energy then I have.

Ed, I like the way yours is constructed. It looks sturdy but easy to open and clean out between seasons. Is there a horizontal "floor" inside or is the interior a single open space?

Nice! Determined little guys, aren't they? I found the post where you described making the birdhouse like a bandsaw box. I think I may take a crack at one of those for next year. Thanks for the inspiration!

Well wren season is over. The male is no longer singing by any of the nest boxes and what I think is the last batch of little ones are out and about. The mom was so busy the past week, in with food, out with waste, perhaps sitting on a branch for a short while before heading back out looking for food. Now as soon as they learn the art of survival they can head back down south.

I always miss them when they go, but, so far they seem to come back year after year so long as they stick with the plan all is good.

My wife got to see one of the little ones practicing flying, keep doing this little pattern over and over. I missed it but she sure enjoyed it and got to tell me all about it.
