Sanding disc

Hi, to anyone that can help, I have 2 sanding disc that are rusted up pretty bad, but if I can get them de-rusted what could I use on them to prevent rust coming back? Thanks.

I would probably repaint them with some rustoleum or something if needed, then wax them like you wax the way tubes.

So if I wax them would my sand disc adhere?

I would think so as long as you buff it after it dries. Test it with some scotch tape before trying the disc. If it adheres well, I would think the disc would. If not, take the wax off with some mineral spirits. I don't know why it would rust anyway unless stored in a humid or damp environment.

After you get the rust off - probably by sanding - coat the disk with WD-40. Use a cleaner like acetone or MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) to remove the WD-40 from the surface, but leave it on the rest of the disk.

MEK is about the same as acetone, but evaporates more slowly.

WD-40 is an excellent water dispersing agent and will stop rust from forming.

Thanks awesome tips, right now it does get humid in my shop and I am working on some leakes, my shop doors won't close but I have a plan to rebuild the doors.

I would do as Charlese has advised and I would NOT paint the disks. I would probably use steel wool rather than sand paper to get rid of the rust if possible.

Some Birchwood Casey gun-bluing compound might help.... anyway it looks cool!

I have found that Boeshield T-9 works very well after you get the rust off. Spray on a heavy coat and let it dry. Wipe down and then wax.

Have you tried the non-aerosol product?
