Sanding disc preference?

When considering a used sanding disc for my model 500, do experienced users prefer steel or aluminum type?

I think you should add the Conical sanding disk to your arsenal. It is exceptionally good.

I have all three. Each is good for different tasks. Although I use the conical one most.

Either one will do the job. I prefer the aluminum one since it has a slight bevel at the periphery(useful when 'thickness' sanding. However the conical disk is better at that task.

The issue of warping comes to mind, but I do not know if there is appreciable difference re what happens if the disk is dropped.

Be aware there are at least three versions of the aluminum one(all SS oem). The only 'significant' detail is the mounting set screw(model 10 versions had 3/16" hex head screws).

Also there are two steel versions, but they only differ in the hub which can be changed.

As for 'flatness', I consider that a nit if not excessive.

I agree add a conical first, then add additional flat one(s), however they be scarcer.
