Very basic Power Station setup question
Hi,
New to the forum. I recently inherited a workshop full of tools. Unfortunately, previous owner of said tools is no longer with us (RIP) to help me find my way around them.
I'm trying to set up the SS Belt Sander on the Power Station. There are two sets of holes the tubes can fit into, one set is higher than the other. I assume the higher set is for non-use storage, because the Sander is too high for the spindle coupling to meet. However, if I use the lower holes I am not sure how to secure the height of the Sander. Do I simply tighten down the set screws in those holes or do I use some kind of height-setting collar? Also, if I use the lower holes it appears I can't tighten the lever to secure the horizontal position of the tool, because the tool itself is in the way.
I know this is really basic stuff, but I haven't found any simple instructions yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

The upper holes are used for the jointer. I have a strip sander mounted on my Power Station and it is mounted in the lower holes. I don't use the Power Station any longer. Except for the jointer I believe that all the Special purpose tools use the lower holes.

Re: Very basic Power Station setup question
Thanks, I have found one collar so far (lots of boxes of stuff). Do I use the collars to set the height? Do I need a collar on each tube, or is one sufficient? Also, I realized what was keeping the horizontal position lever from tightening was a vacuum attachment which I popped off.
Thanks,
Andy

Download the manual from http://vintagemachinery.org, it has the proper setup procedure.

Ah, thank you! That's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for but hadn't found yet.

Re: Very basic Power Station setup question
Andy, there are set screws in the bores that are used to screw the depth of insertion (adjust height). You will also find the upper holes useful when setting up for drum and disk sanding and for the scroll saw. I have an extension table for use with a sanding disk or the drums.dulcimist wrote:Hi,

Check out the manual that was sent to you. All of the configurations are detailed there.

Thanks for all the quick responses! Very helpful. I'm sure I will be back soon with more. I will probably post pictures of things which I don't even know what they are just to I.D. them. Thanks again! - Andy

Don't the mounting tubes have an offset in them? they should look like two posts slightly offset from each other. The offset should rest on the mounting base and the SPT is then secured to the upper portion of the tubes with set screws.
