First try on the Smithy Lathe Mode ;)

The darkest one, I call it a Rook, the second stick, I call it a salt shaker, candlestick.

Oh and yes, there is another tool rest mounted on the back. I did that because, the front tool rest (the one I used) would only sink through the 510 carriage. Meaning it would lower. Would not stay in position, unless the dummy tool rest was installed!

You may do yourself a good turn by inspecting the adjustment mechanism in the carriage as well as the positioning of the wedges and locks.
You have a strange problem that I don't think I have ever encountered. It may be too late here but I just can't get my mind to work right now. I do not have a way to look at my carriage locks right now, but I will check in the AM

PS good work on the turnings. There are only two types of cuts to make, Beads and coves, all others are variations of the two. Practice makes better, not perfect. There are no perfect lathe turners. Some are better than others but none are perfect.

I like it. I have only used the lathe setup once so far, and that was to create a wooden rim to replace a broken training wheel for my daughter. So nothing compared to your attempts. Your gonna inspire me to break out the lathe next week sometime I think.

That looks like so much fun. I still haven't set up for any lathe work or even unpacked the lathe chisels that come with the SS. Some day.
