A question that might get answered here, I have seen the stand alone power stations on the website, but they are apparently not in production right now. Does anyone know if this is temporary, or are they not going to carry them anymore? I could see where one or two of them open up lots of efficientcy. Rol them out of the way when not in use. I do not know of the 'plan', but realize it is not all it is cracked up to be. It is quite useful for slower driven SPTs, but not for a jointer for instance(it will drive a jointer, but at a slower speed than the M5/V/II/7).

Yes it takes up less room than a Mx. They are a bit noisey and they tend to 'vibrate' due to belt set and a sheet metal 'base'.

In spite of all that, I like em(got 2).

As you say we don't know the plan but, I would think if an item is still in the catalog and not currently available the plan is to produce it at some point. Of course plans are subject to change.

Rather than a Power Station I'd be inclined to find an inexpensive used Mark 5/V and make a Mini or Shorty.

I shortened up my greenie by about 14", I have the belt sander on 1 end disk on the other. I can still put my SS jointer on it and if I would find a steal on a BS, even though I have a 14" Delta with a riser block and a stand along SS BS, I like the variable speed feature when on a SS drive, for metal cutting and plastic.

I built a shorty from parts I bought on eBay. I just waited for each part until it came up in near new condition at a good price. I cut 18" off the tubes. I use it primarily as a sanding station.

Algale, Jpg, Jsburger, and Erlover, you are all right, the best option would be pick up a second unit, and customize it to my needs. Jsburger that is beautiful, you are planting ideas in my head. I hadn't fully read up on the power station, I thought it did have some form of speed control on it. Artie

It does. It's range is 850 to 3850. Short of 700 to 5200 that a headstock has.

I bought my 510 new in (1998?) and also bought my PowerPro new. In fact every SPT (special purpose tool) I have was purchased from the mother ship/ Wouldn't do it any other way!!! I have been very satisfied with their service.

Shopsmith has undoubtedly the very best warranty in the market today/ As they advertise, they do stand by all of their products.

The only woodworking tool that is not Shopsmith is a DeWalt 735 thickness planer. It was purchased new at a 20% discount from Lowes.
