Pepper and salt grinders

I want to make pepper and salt grinders, but can't seem to find a source for the inside mechaniciam. Does any one know of a good supply place?

Pen State Industries also has Salt/Pepper Mill components and Coffee Grindercomponents. I have purchased from them a couple times and they have been great to deal with.

Sorry I didn't get into this thread earlier, but I got my kits from Craft Supplies USA. 6" salt mill mechanism is number 365-2006 and the stainless steel pepper mill mechanism is number 365-0006. Instructions come with the mechanisms. I have also bought walnut and hard maple blanks from them.

The reason I chose the 6" mechanisms is because I could bore a hole through the body (about 5" long). Didn't want to buy a bit to go longer.

If you don't have a 1 5/8" Forster or spade bit or a 1 1/16" Forster or spade, you can order the Forster's from Craft supplies. As Nick pointed out earlier, a better bit to hog out end grain is a spade bit.

I haven't use spade bits, as I had the Forster's. So have no experience there, but the Forster's can heat up pretty fast if you are not careful.

You may want to try Woodcraft as well. It doesn't hurt to do a little bit of comparison shopping.

I got mine from Craft Supplies USA (The Woodturners Catalog) Also got 6" extensions from them. Actually used two extensions to drill out an 18" tall mill. In order to keep the hole centered, had to drill from both sides. Came pretty darned close! The method worked!!!
