Prevention of rust on Shopsmith stored in a garage.

Post by FBaron »

Sold my Shopsmith 500 about 20 years ago when moved to a new town and started a business and had no place to keep it. I live about 45 miles from the coast in South Texas and the humidity is very high and temperatures very hot during the summer. Rust is a problem on equipment. I would need to store in a garage. What treatment would prevent it from rusting and how often would it need to be applied? I need to know if it is worth the trouble to get one and if I can prevent rust without a huge amount of work invested on my part for maintenance.

Searched for "rust" and found more than enough information for me to work with. Great resource and should have looked first.

I use this stuff on my Drill mill and lathe and shaper.

I really like this stuff.

You may have to clean this off before you do Woodworking but it will save it till you get ready to use it then you can reapply it.

Just an Option, Hope this helps.

Fluid Fill Aerosol 11.75oz.

Looks like what I was searching for: how to stop rust between uses, which might be for as long a few months in a damp environment. Lanolin is a great idea for such a product. Thanks
