I had a hell of a time getting my fan sheave off. After many hours, I finally won with the two claw legs on my bearing puller. I took a photo after it was off, but was too excited and forgot to take photos once the motor housing was finally off the shaft. I've gone through the assembly diagrams, the "AO Smith Motor Bearing Removal" writeup, and the threads about the "wavy washer," but I'm still not certain how it goes back together.
1. That copper colored piece must be the fan sheave sleeve keyway
2. That sleeve outer threads must be the spacer right? I wonder why it has outer threads
3. Does the wavy washer go ontop of the actual bearing? So the bearing is sandwitched between the e clip and the wavy washer?
My best guess is the last photo
Fan Sheave > Key Washer > Spacer > Motor Face > Wavy Washer > Bearing > E Clip.
I have already ordered new assemblies for both my sheaves (idler and motor)- the idler/control sheave is much worse than this, the keyway was stretched at least a half inch. So I figured I'd change both.

My 'guess' is the outer threaded sleeve AND the washer are not OEM. Neither do I think the copper sleeve was intended to be removable. The wavy washer goes between the end cap bearing bore and the bearing thus creating a variable depth cavity that allows heat expansion. The e clip stops the bearing from inward movement.

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense. My OEM spacer will arrive in a few weeks then I can see how that was supposed to fit. I also assumed the copper sleeve is part of the sleeve itself and just got pressed out. Thanks JPG!

Some of the parts in your pictures are different than those currently used and shown in the parts diagram of the Conventional Headstock currently here on the Shopsmith website under Service Parts. That section of the parts diagram is shown below for reference. Your Motor may have some difference as an earlier Motor or even because it is a special Motor for use outside the US. Someone may have had this Motor Sheave assembly apart before and not put all parts back in the correct order or added parts not normally used. Just thinking of explanations for the differences.

This is the same in the parts diagram from 3/99 in my Mark V 520 Manual. Even older manuals were very similar with the Spring Retaining parts being the most notable change. Early Manuals from the 1950's didn't show the use of the Sheave Spacer.
These are the parts in order starting at the Motor reference number 121 of how it goes together.
122 are 5 screws to hold the Motor Fan Plate 123 on the motor.
124 is the Sheave Spacer.
120 the Long Key
119 is the Fan Sheave with 118 the set screw.
117 is the Floating Sheave.
116 is the Motor Spring.
115 is the Washer (it is a flat Washer to retain the Spring).
114 is the Retaining Ring (in your case the "E" Clip).
Is the Bearing you show from inside the Motor? There is not a bearing used outside the Motor housing on the Motor Shaft. Having a Washer between the Motor Housing and the Sheave Spacer would change the spacing distance and is not currently part of the assembly and doesn't appear to have ever had a washer there. I believe the Flat Washer you have is for retaining the Spring ahead of the "E" Clip. The current Fan Sheave doesn't appear to have the split spacer yours does. Maybe that was the way earlier Fan Sheaves were constructed. I agree with JPG that it probably was not meant to be separated from the Sheave.
Something to note is over time the set screw on the Fan Sheave can come loose and this causes the Sheave Spacer to wear down to the point the fan blades begin to rub on the motor housing. A worse situation in earlier Motor Sheave Assemblies that did not include the Sheave Spacer.
Now to be honest the information I have on assembling the Motor Sheave parts comes mostly from the Parts diagrams and from others here on the Forum. I own or have owned 8 Mark 5/V's ranging from Mark 5 Greenies to Goldies and Mark V's up to the Model 520. I have not, fortunately, had the need to disassemble those parts from the Motor. Others who have may be able to add to this or correct anything here from their own experience.

When reassembling it add a few drops of lightweight oil as you place the Floating Sheave. Use caution as you compress the Spring to get the Washer and "E" Clip in place.
