Carl, find one of the group close to you and I will bet they would love to work with you and show you some great tricks or best practice they have learn using their Shopsmith.
I have learned tons from these guys and I have had my SS since 94 and learn something all the time about use, maintenance, and new ideas on using mine.
Great group you cannot miss reading through it.

I recently met a gentleman who worked for several years as an editor for Fine Woodworking Magazine. My wife had told him I enjoy woodworking. I wondered what he would think when discovering I having two and 1/2 Shopsmith's. He commented wow that is one powerful and versatile tool. He expressed a high admiration that a Shopsmith which is so compact, can be of terrific quality and accomplish so many varied tasks. He can't wait to spend time in my shop this coming Sunday. Jim

is the SS as good as it appears?
I bought my Shopsmith about 25 years ago, it was to be a 'temporary' thing as my space was so limited. I've since moved, upgraded it twice, added a bunch of attachments and still have it. Other than periodic adjustments and cleaning it's been running great. I redid my first house, inside and out, twice, working on the first go round on my current home, it's a great tool. That said, sometimes a pain to switch from one to the other if i don't plan ahead when i'm working.
