Supernova 2 Chuck

This is my first post. I have a Mark 5, recently purchased, and would like to try turning some bowls. I have purchased a Supernova 2 chuck and see that the insert which I was supplied (we were not sure what I might need) does not work. I see that Pennstate Industries does carry one for a Shopsmith. The picture shown for item L5818 shows a collar on one side and threads on the other side. Does the collar have an allen screw which secures the insert onto the shaft of the Shopsmith?

Yes, the PSI adapter has a 5/32" allen set screw. I have a Nova Midi(?) chuck with that adapter and it works fine.

Welcome to the group!

Since you already have the chuck why not get the right adapter? The adapter you have now can be changed to the correct one and it will work out a lot better then if you get the pennstate one.

Take a look here:

and look for the 15M80 plain insert. Yea it is $22.99 but it fits the chuck and the shopsmith. I can assure you of better performance using this setup.

So that would be only one piece instead of two, correct?

Yep! That is correct. Less pieces = less chance for errors.

Teknatool makes an insert for the Shopsmith and whoever sold you the chuck should swap your insert for the correct one.
