Walking Stick And Cane Jig

This is a jig that works great for holding round stock or tree limbs you are carving or working on. I copied it from one I saw on a DVD. Easy to make out of scrap.

Supplies
One - 2"x 10"x 18"
One - 1/2" plywood 10" x 28"(Base)
Two - 1/2" plywood 2" X 28"(sides)
One 8"carvers screw or one 1/2" allthred 8"long,
nut and washer .
14 wood screws 2" & wood Glue and a 2 part epoxy.
1 1/2" piece of leather 24" long. An old belt works great.
One 1/4"bungee cord about 8"


1-Cut a 2" x10”x 18" in half and stand each half on end 30"a part. Or as far apart as you want. Then with a straight edge mark your angel (Yellow line).

2- Then turn one board on its side and drill a 3" deep hole in the center of the edge of the board to fit the allthred or carves screw.
3- Then rip cut each board at the angle of your marks.
4- Center and glue and screw the head and foot board you just cut at each end of the 10"x30" base srewing from the bottom. Using 3, 2" screws. Make sure the down side of the angels of each board are pointing the same way.
5-Glue and screw the two 2"x30" side on.
6- With the 2 part epoxy glue in the allthred to the bottom part of the 2"x 10" head board you drilled the whole in. If you are using a carves screw you can just screw it in with out epoxy. you may have to enlarge the whole in the top so that it slides over the allthred or carvers screw.
7- cut 3 strips of leather glue one strip on the top of the foot. Cut the other 2 in ½ and trim to fit either side of the allthred or carvers screw. Glue one set to the top of the Bottom head piece and one set to the bottom of the top piece.

8-You will also need 3 or 4 round blocks of wood about 2” long. You would turn these in diameters just a little smaller than the size of round stock or limbs you work with most. You can also just cut small pieces of different size limbs if to not have a lathe. This equalizes pressure when you clamp down on the work.

9-As you can see I cut in ½ round slots on one side to hold tools. On the out side of the foot piece I put a brass hook and using some bungee cord I secure the bottom of the work. This lets me loosen the top and rotate the work easily. You can C-clamp the jig to most any table. I put it on my workmate much of the time.
