Kreg screw shank sizes

I noticed the screws come in #6, #7 and #8 shank sizes. I understand that the dill bit is used to drill the depth of the hole. But do I need a different bit for different shanks? Won't a #6 shank be different from a #8? Sorry. It is not letting me delete this..
