It is certainly redesigned! It is not as simple as just "pulling the pin and replacing it" from the current design.

Sure wish they would post a complete "coming out" video and cut these tidbits of info. The suspense has gotten me completely disinterested.

You may have already tried blowing it up, but here is what I 'see'.

I do not have a clue what that dark circular shaped hole is. It may just be the SPT mounting tube clearance hole(one of two).<<<<edit

The dark rectangular area is a 'socket' for the ears on the tube 'ends' and I see a raised ear on the back side that that black knob seen on the waytube end fastens to. There may be a pin on that ear(lighter thing). The near side appears to be raised also and may have a hole. EDIT that lighter thing is I believe the locking screw!!!

This may raise more questions than revealing details.

I think the right end is the same. The way tube ends I believe have an open slot that slips over a pin in the bench end castings. The black knobs(one on each end) lock that slot to the pin. The locking screw for the left end may be on the far side(allowing the benchtube end casting be the same part as on the right end). i.e. the locking screw on the right end is on the near side - flip it to the other end, and it would be on the far side - the raised 'ears' are on both near and far sides...

This may be as clear as the pix, but that is the way I 'see' it.:)

Maybe if we keep making these wild guesses about what it might be or might become, someone in Marketing or Advertising will get the idea that they should throw out some bait. Who knows, one of us just might want to buy a new Shopsmith Mark VII or whatever it is officially going to be called whenever they decide to release it. Guess that's enough rant.

When I spoke to SS customer service the gentleman called it a Mark VII. Orders now are for Sept. delivery. I'm sure any of these questions can be answered with a call to SS. Alec

You mean Dave started all this speculation?

I really am having a difficult time absorbing the details here. Taking orders, with no prior 'announcement;???? Who pray tell is 'ordering'???

It looks to me that they don't want to market the Mark 7 name yet until they get this roll-out of the Power Pro headstock farther along. So as to not confuse or take away from the Power Pro announcement and presentation.

The Power Pro Upgrade is certainly enough to be presenting at the moment with it's many options.

Makes sense, and soon they will be offering the Mark 7 upgrade of dual pivot bases.

I have not been in the shop to look lately (anything past yesterday is already forgotten) but I am wondering if the table will be low enough when the whole thing is tilted to the left to be at a reasonable working height? :confused: On my old Mark VII's when so tilted the left end of headstock can be well below the regular way tube height.
Maybe when this rain quits I will remember to walk down to the wood shop and look at them.
I guess you could make a wooden platform to stand on for using it that direction if you felt the need. Not really too big of a deal I guess. :rolleyes:
