Support Leg Question

Post by eggy »

I've seen a couple of pictures now of people that have an extension (or auxillary) table mounted on the end of their Shopsmith that have the downward support legs coming back to maybe the bottom of the Shopsmith legs (Dusty is one I remember off hand). I can't see the bottom because of the photo's, but I assume that's where they fasten. Is this something you guys just came up with and did you have to modify either the support leg or the Shopsmith leg to get it to work. It seems like that would work well for me as I have to constantly move the Shopsmith to make room for parking vehicles. Does anyone have a photo that clearly shows how the support legs mount at the bottom?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Support Leg Question

I could/would take a photo if it would reveal any thing that I think you might want to replicate but I don't believe they will.

I use the standard Shopsmith adjustable legs. I simply pull them back against the 520 leg for support (so that they don't slide on the floor). I pull them back this way so that they are not a tripping hazard which I believe they are (in my shop configuration) if I simply extend them straight down to the floor.

I have thought about affixing them to the Shopsmith as you have suggested. Doing so would allow the SS to be moved without removing the tables. Without the support legs, the router table and router are just too heavy to be supported by nothing more than the tubes.

I have not done this simply because I hardly ever move my Shopsmith. I have given thought to replacing the adjustable legs with fixed length legs so that I could use the adjustables elsewhere.

If this doesn't satisfy your needs, let me know and I'll take some photos.

Support Leg Question

eggy,

Why not take a few photos. The more I take, the better, maybe. My grand daughter says its futile. I can do only so good with only 1.3 mega pixels.

Here's what I can do. Hope they help.

p.s. Pictures didn't turn out so bad. These were taken is low light levels with flash. Camera can't handle the sunlight I guess.

Dusty,

Thanks for all your effort. That's about what I pictured. Since I have to move mine, I could do something similar and bolt it to the SS legs.

Again, thanks for your help.

Dusty:

Thanks for the pictures. I have found it a pain to try and secure my extension legs on my uneven floor. Your set-up might solve that problem as well as remove the chance of knocking them as you mentioned.

By the way, the pictures are OK and if you had a better camera you would probably still have to take pics on a low setting as a 5mg file might be too big to display.

Always enjoy your lessons!

I'll send you a picture and I hope part number and source of a device that you might want to use to attach the legs. I'll try to get it tomorrow.

Don't apologize. The camera did a fine job of showing us exactly what we needed to see. :)
I'm a professional techie, but at home I often find simple has it's place. Maybe that's why I like my Shopsmith so well.
